General Effects of Obesity
Obesity
is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This increase is
proportionately to the degree of obesity. The risk of obesity is less in
women than in men. Disorders associated with simple obesity
: 1- Cardiovascular effects of obesity:
a. Hypertension. b. Atherosclerosis : due to high level of LDL and low
level of HDL. c. Arrhythmias and sudden death. 2-

Irregular menses. e. Anovulatory cycles: This may lead to infertility.

local fat accumulation in the tracheophryngeal area. 4-
Gall bladder effects of obesity: a. Increased excretion of
cholesterol. b. Chronic cholycystitis. c. Gall stones.
5- Effects of obesity on the Joints: a.
Osteoarthritis. b. Gout. 6- Skin effects of obesity:
a. Fungal and yeast infections. b. Venous Stasis. c. Acanthosis
nigricans. 7- Cancer effects of obesity: a.
Breast cancer: usually postmenopausal. This is due to the increased
production of oestrogen from armotization of circulating androstenedione in
adipose tissue. b. Prostate cancer in men. 8-
Psychological effects of obesity: 1- Decreased self worth. 2-
Lack of self confidence. 3- Social Isolation. 4- Depression.
