Why should we be anorexic? Of course we have mentioned before the pathological effects of simple obesity. We tried to show how much it is important to know how to be anorexic and how to lose weight specially when we start to be overweight. Here we will try to show the link between obesity and diabetes which is more than strong. They may be considered one entity. Read these points:

1- Obesity may cause impaired glucose tolerance and frank diabetes type 2 in susceptible persons.

2- 85% of type 2 diabetics are obese or at least overweight.

3- The proper treatment of diabetes type 2 is to manage the obesity.

4- The link between diabetes type 2 and obesity is very strong up to the degree that a new term is created " Diabesity".

5- A patient with body mass index of 35 (frankly obese) is 93 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than the lean person.

6- The National Health and Nutrition Examination study demonstrates that for each 1 kilogram of weight gain in the population the risk of diabetes increased by 4.5%.

7- WHO fact sheet (April 2002) describes diabetes as the most important consequence of obesity.

8- Childhood Obesity and diabetes type 2 :

Until recently, type 2 diabetes was unknown in childhood. Type 2 diabetes was called "Adult-onset Diabetes". It was only restricted to adults over the age 40.

However, because of the increasing incidence of obesity in children nowadays, diabetes type 2 is seen frequently in obese children.

9- Weight loss is the most important part in the treatment of diabetes. A 10% loss of weight resulted in improvement of diabetes type 2 and enabled the patients to stop the hypoglycemic medications !
